loan brokerage

what are loan brokers and what can they do for me?

loan brokers

A loan broker can help you find the right loan solution to suit your personal situation. They can offer advice on secured and unsecured lending and for your protection should be regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

Before a loan broker can recommend an appropriate loan solution they will need some of your personal details. They will ask you about your employment, any outstanding credit you have as well as your debt history. This information will help them determine which loan companies are likely to offer you a loan and what type of loan will suit you best.

One of the reasons that loan brokers recommend FIRSTPLUS is because we allow you to borrow more, more affordably. Whereas many Homeowner Loans only allow you to borrow 90% of the value of your home, less your mortgage balance, FIRSTPLUS could lend you up to the value of your home, less your mortgage balance. what can I use a FIRSTPLUS loan for?

FIRSTPLUS loans are very versatile; you can use your loan for whatever you choose. For example you can use it to renovate your home or build a loft conversion. A FIRSTPLUS loan can also help you manage your existing credit, such as car loans, store cards or credit cards, by consolidating them into one manageable monthly payment.

If you're a homeowner, you could borrow from £5,000 to £100,000 with repayments spread over 5 to 25 years. So whatever your situation we can tailor a loan to suit your needs - typical  8.5% APR variable. FIRSTPLUS secured loans are not available for investment or business purposes.

what's FIRSTPLUS' approach to lending?

Traditional loans only allow you to borrow up to 90% of the value of your home, less your mortgage balance, in other words 90% of your equity. But FIRSTPLUS is different. We could lend you up to the value of your home, less your mortgage balance. So you can borrow more, and borrow more affordably. In fact, because you can choose a longer repayment period, your monthly credit repayments could substantially fall - typical  8.5% APR variable.

Please note, however, that by borrowing over a longer period, your overall interest payments will increase. And, if you repay your FIRSTPLUS loan early, some early settlement charges will apply.

We pride ourselves on an exceptional standard of service and our commitment to quality and responsibility has been regularly recognised. We strive for excellence throughout the company and this is apparent in our approach to business.

can you give me an example of what my repayments might be?

Calculating your repayments is easy. Simply use our loan calculator and enter the amount your want to borrow. Typical  8.5% APR variable.

how much less could I pay each month with a FIRSTPLUS loan?

Many FIRSTPLUS customers significantly reduce their monthly credit repayments with a FIRSTPLUS loan. Use the loan calculator to get a quick quote. Typical  8.5% APR variable. Please remember if you choose to borrow over a longer period, your overall interest payments will increase.

will I have to pay any application fees?

You may have to pay fees if you want to make changes to your loan agreement - such as adjusting the terms or moving mortgage lender. You will find information about our charges in your application pack.

what happens if I want to repay the whole loan early?

If you wish to settle your FIRSTPLUS Homeowner Loan early, our Customer Care Team will provide you with an accurate settlement figure. The exact total will be calculated in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, which you can find on the reverse of your Credit Agreement.

A FIRSTPLUS Homeowner Loan is designed for long-term finance. If you choose to settle your loan early and your loan application was made prior to 18.01.08, up to two months interest and an early settlement charge will be payable. If your loan application was made on or after 18.01.08 a fee equal to 30 days interest and the applicable service charge in accordance with our tariff of charges will be payable.

Please note, the loan arrangement fee is non-refundable.

can I transfer my loan if I move house?

If you move home you can nearly always take your FIRSTPLUS loan with you and transfer the security to your new home. Simply contact our Customer Care team on 0845 650 6600* 28 days before your planned moving date, and we'll make all the arrangements for you.

As a responsible lender we'll review the overall situation first to ensure your loan continues to fit our underwriting criteria and that you can meet your new monthly commitments comfortably.

If you are moving to a lower value property you may need to settle some or all of your loan early, using the proceeds from the sale of your current property.

Remember, any change to your FIRSTPLUS loan agreement needs our approval, and normal approval and underwriting terms and conditions apply.

can I borrow more later?

We are always happy to consider applications for a new larger loan. FIRSTPLUS customers can call us on 0845 013 1011* or apply online.

Please be aware some charges may be applicable when settling your old loan. In addition we charge an arrangement fee when you take out a new loan. Find out more about our arrangement fee.

can I extend the loan term?

In most cases it is possible to extend the loan term, thereby reducing your monthly repayments. The loan term can be increased to a maximum of 25 years. This could result in a significant increase to your disposable income each month. Existing customers can contact the Customer Care Team on 0845 650 6600*.

Please note, however, that by borrowing over a longer period, your overall interest payments will increase. Typical  8.5% APR variable.

can I increase my monthly repayment amount?

In most cases this is possible. You can increase your monthly repayments and reduce the term of your loan to a minimum of 120 months. Existing customers can contact the Customer Care Team on 0845 650 6600*. Fees may apply.

what should I do if I'm having difficulty making repayments?

If you are having difficulty making repayments, then please talk to us as soon as possible. Together we could probably work out a way to re-schedule payments - perhaps extending the term of the loan in order to reduce the monthly payments.

The right course of action will depend entirely on your personal situation - but please discuss it with us, because we are usually able to help. Existing FIRSTPLUS customers should contact the Customer Care Team on 0845 650 6600*.

if I'm unhappy with the service FIRSTPLUS has provided how do I make a complaint?

Any financial services complaints we cannot settle may ultimately be referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk.

why have I been refused a loan?

A FIRSTPLUS secured personal loan is only available to UK homeowners with a mortgage and who meet our strict application and underwriting criteria.

As a responsible lender, we do not want to lend to anyone who cannot comfortably afford the repayments, so we have rigorous qualification criteria. If we decline your application your Customer Account Manager will be able to give you more information about why we are unable to offer you a loan.

how do I apply for a loan and do I need to provide any documents?

You can apply online or by calling us free on 0800 052 0202*. Your dedicated Customer Account Manager will talk you through the options and ensure we offer you the best solution for your needs. Your application can be completed over the phone and we'll normally tell you immediately if it's approved in principle. We'll then send your Loan Agreement out to you straight away.

You will need to provide some documentation, such as proof of income and evidence of mortgage payments. We'll send you a simple check-list so you know exactly what to send back to us.

will our mortgage lender want to know about our FIRSTPLUS loan?

Yes, we will need to get permission from your mortgage lender for your FIRSTPLUS loan. To keep the process as simple and straightforward as possible, with your authority we can contact your lender on your behalf.

are there fees for taking out the loan?

There are some specific fees to cover our costs if we have to make amendments to your loan - for example if you cancel the loan after your loan cheques have been sent or if you amend your loan in some way.
